MS RED - Why DEVELOPMENT is so important to us:

The Christmas Truce Statue (1914)

Mid Sussex RED wishes to develop & deepen the knowledge & understanding of the roles the people & places of Mid Sussex have played in Military History. All Mid Sussex residents are invited to attend our “Open” events, with School / College aged pupils (7 to 18 years), invited to bespoke designed “Closed” events.

We also aim to develop as individuals and as a community group, so a big focus for us is looking for ways in which we can do so.

How will MS RED Develop the people & places of Mid Sussex?

We believe that our “service” to the Mid Sussex Community is needed to mark the passing of numerous centenaries & anniversaries taking place throughout 2017 to 2021. We will always focus on past & present Mid Sussex Residents participation in these historical events, both in Mid Sussex and abroad. Wherever possible we will “interview” residents to capture their experiences of military conflict. We will endeavour to bring the younger & elder generations “together” at our events.

The last survivors of World War One passed away a few years ago. Any serving member of the armed forces from World War Two will be aged in his or her 80’s/90’s. Our service is needed now to capture their “oral history”, explanations of photographs, principally teaching the 7 to 18 year olds of Mid Sussex about their actions.

In the August 2016 edition of the Lindfield Life Magazine, speaking about our delivery of the “Centenary of the Battle of the Somme’ event, Mr Marcus Still, Principal of Lindfield Primary Academy, said: “We would all like to say a big thank you to Mr Taylor and his team of enthusiastic volunteers who brought the past to life for our children in our community. The children and adults were enthused for the entire time and listened carefully to the facts and responses to their questions. A very moving tribute.” (Please click here to read the full article MS RED Articles ).

Our events will always focus on Remembrance & Education, marrying the eldest generation with schoolchildren, enabling all to discuss the events of primarily WW1 & WW2. We hope to also look at Mid Sussex involvement in Crimean, Napoleonic, Boer, Korean and Falklands Conflicts, over the coming years.

As with our “Launch event” in November 2016, we aspire to bring our entire community into contact with numerous other Sussex & National organisations, many of whom are detailed in the Our Allies section of this website. If you know any organisation, local business or individual person who'd potentially like to assist us financially, please contact us: "CONTACT!"

How will Mid Sussex RED develop as a community group?

All funds raised at our events will:

A) Be put towards the funding of future MS RED events, resources, annual administration costs etc.

B) Donated to the nominated Charities / not for profit organisations we support, at the end of each calendar year.

MS RED members pay an annual membership fee. We also seek funding from local businesses, charities and community funds to meet our annual administrative costs.

MS RED aspire to be self-funding by November 2017. We are asking for financial assistance from funding organisations and local businesses to purchase equipment, administrative costs and venue hire for our events to be held in May 2017.

We ask each school (preferably via their PTA), if they would like to make a donation per class of children they send to our events. These donations will be retained by MS RED to fund future events.

We will charge a nominal fee for each adult to attend one of our public / open events, with a specified advertised percentage of proceeds retained by MS RED to fund future events & with the other pre-agreed percentage being donated to pre-selected advertised (preferred local) charities.

Longer term MS RED projects centre on the collection of oral histories from Mid Sussex Residents, to be used at our events and potentially published, with all proceeds covering costs and profits to charity.

MS RED Chairman, Matt Taylor, also offers “presentations / talks” to other groups/organisations with fees (after travel expenses), donated to MS RED.
