MS RED's Inaugural AGM - Tuesday 28th November 2017 (19:00 to 20:30) - King Edward Hall

Mid Sussex RED's AGM 2017 - Tuesday 28th November 2017 - 19:00 to 20:30, Old Library, King Edward Hall, Lindfield.

Mid Sussex RED will be hosting its first ever AGM on TUESDAY 28th November 2017, between 19:00 & 20:30, in the OLD Library, King Edward Hall, Lindfield.

Due to our community group forming on 30th September 2016, we decided to operate a 14 month "first year", as this financial year will close for us on 30th November 2017.

We invite all current MS RED members and ANY person who may wish to join to attend this meeting. Existing members will be contacted to ascertain their availability. Any person who may wish to join our group, but is unable to attend the AGM, is asked to speak with Matt or Malcolm via sending an e-mail to "CONTACT!"  .

An agenda will be added to this message once it has been finalised, however, once the "boring bits" are over, we would very quickly like to move onto discussions for next years events & activities.

Please come along and get involved!

We look forward to welcoming you.

MS RED Autumn 2017 Remembrance Events - Mission Accomplished!

THANK YOU to MSDC & Haywards Heath Town Council for funding these events!

MS RED is proud to have delivered two events at Clair Hall, Haywards Heath this autumn. On Friday 29th September 2017, just under 350 primary school children from Lindfield, Blackthorns, Bolney, St. Josephs', St. Wilfrid's and Harlands Schools attended the Haywards Heath & Surrounds Schools event. There were numerous exhibitors from Sussex and national organisations, including 5 charities which were:

  • The War Memorials Trust,
  • The East Grinstead Museum,
  • The Wings Museum (Balcombe),
  • Newhaven Fort,
  • The Royal British Legion (Haywards Heath & Lindfield Branches)

The event was opened by Haywards Heath Town Councillor, Mrs Sandy Ellis. The signal for the closure of both the morning and afternoon sessions came in the form of a World War 2 air-raid siren being hand cranked by Daniel Hunt - curator of the Wings museum - it was extremely loud and the children very much enjoyed it!

The exhibition and mini lessons provided by the War Memorials Trust (Carlie Silvey & Katherine Worley) and a local military historian (Margaret Nicolle), were very well received.

On Friday 20th October 2017, the same exhibition was delivered again to enable members of the Mid Sussex Community to attend. The same charities and community groups, with the addition of the Sussex Family History Group supported the event. The event was opened by the Chairman of Mid Sussex District Council, Councillor Bruce Forbes. There were 30-40 minute presentations from the War Memorials Trust, Margaret Nicolle (on First World War Artists) and MS RED Chairman Matt Taylor on 'Lindfield Men in the Somme (1916)' and the 'London Rifle Brigade in Mid Sussex', (many of whom fell at the 3rd battle of Ypres (1917)).

In addition to the charities, both events could not have been delivered without the fantastic support of the staff at Clair Hall, Sussex Military History Society, Lindfield History Project Group, Mr Nick Dutt, Mr David Collins, Mr Mike Pollock and all of the MS RED team of volunteers. Over £200 was raised from donations and ticket sales.

The final words of thanks must go to Mid Sussex District Council (Regina Choudray & Elaine Clarke) and Haywards Heath Town Council (Steven Trice & Fatima Mirza), for the funding grants to pay for these events, as well as their advice and guidance. THANK YOU VERY MUCH from the MS RED Team.
